Precautions when designing a tension pulley for timing belt drive
Tension pulley is a follower wheel pressed on the belt to change the wrap angle of the pulley or control the tension of the belt. It is a tensioning device for belt drive. In the timing belt drive, when the center distance of the timing belt cannot be adjusted, a tension pulley can be used to adjust the tightness of the timing belt, and effectively reduce the vibration of the timing belt during operation and prevent the occurrence of slippage, ensuring the normal and stable operation of the transmission system.
Precautions when installing the tension pulley:
1. Tension
The adjustment of the tension is an important part of installing the tension pulley. If the tension is too small, the friction between the belt and the pulley will be insufficient, causing the belt to slip, affecting the transmission efficiency and even causing the equipment to shut down; if the tension is too large, it will significantly increase the load of the belt and accelerate wear, and even cause the belt to break. Excessive tension may also damage the bearing of the pulley. It is recommended to use special tools to adjust the tension to the recommended range during installation.
2. Position of the tension pulley
The tension pulley should be placed on the inner side of the loose side of the belt, so that the belt is only subjected to one-way bending and fatigue damage is reduced. The tension pulley should be installed as close to the large pulley as possible to avoid excessive impact on the wrap angle of the small pulley and ensure the stability and reliability of the transmission; if the tension pulley is placed on the outer side of the loose side, it should be as close to the small pulley as possible. The wheel groove size of the tension pulley is the same as that of the pulley, and the diameter is smaller than the diameter of the small pulley.
