What are the common types of belt drives, as well as their characteristics and application scenarios
Belt drives are generally composed of a pulley (driving pulley) fixed on the driving shaft, a pulley (driven pulley) fixed on the driven shaft, and a belt (drive belt) tightly sleeved on the two wheels. The drive belt is a tool for transmitting power between the driving wheel and the driven wheel. There are friction belt drives that rely on the friction between the belt and the pulley, and there are timing belt drives that rely on the meshing of the teeth on the belt and the pulley. According to different working principles, they are mainly divided into two categories: friction belt drives and meshing belt drives.
1. Friction belt drive
Friction belt drives rely on the friction between the drive belt and the pulley for transmission. When the driving wheel rotates, the drive belt moves with it due to the friction force, and then drives the driven wheel to rotate to achieve power transmission. Friction belt drives have the characteristics of simple structure, easy manufacturing and installation, but their transmission ratio is unstable, and there are elastic sliding and slipping phenomena. Common types of friction belt drives include: flat belt drive, V-belt drive, round belt drive, etc.
Flat belt drive: When the flat belt drive is working, the belt is sleeved on the smooth wheel surface, and the transmission is carried out by the friction between the belt and the wheel surface.
V-belt drive: The power is transmitted by the friction between the two sides of the V-belt and the sides of the wheel groove.
Round belt drive: The power is transmitted by the friction between the round belt and the contact surface of the round belt pulley.
2. Meshing belt drive
Meshing belt drive is a meshing transmission through the teeth on the belt and the wheel. This transmission method can ensure the accuracy of the transmission ratio, high transmission efficiency, and no slippage during the transmission process. Timing belt drive is a typical meshing belt drive method, which uses the teeth of the timing belt and the teeth of the timing pulley to mesh to transmit motion and power.
Friction belt drive
Friction belt drive is suitable for high-speed transmission occasions with small and medium power that do not require high transmission ratio accuracy and large center distance. For example, the flat belt drive has a simple structure and is suitable for low speed and small torque occasions; the V-belt drive has a large load-bearing capacity and is suitable for high speed and high torque occasions; the round belt drive has good flexibility and is suitable for occasions that require frequent starting and braking. In addition, the friction belt drive also has the advantages of absorbing vibration, buffering shock, and overload protection, so it is also widely used in agricultural machinery, household appliances and other fields.
Meshing belt drive
The timing belt drive has the advantages of accurate transmission ratio, high transmission efficiency, smooth and impact-free, and low operating noise. It is widely used in various industrial equipment and automation systems, such as automation equipment, CNC machine tools, printers and other occasions that require high-precision transmission. The timing belt drive can also withstand a large load and is suitable for occasions that transmit large torque, such as heavy machinery, engineering machinery, etc. In addition, the timing belt drive does not require lubrication, which reduces maintenance workload and pollution, and meets the requirements of energy saving and environmental protection.
